After winning one of the biggest games of the season against Lamar, the varsity tennis team celebrated by going to In-N-Out screaming, cheering and jumping.
The varsity tennis team has a new tradition this year where they eat at a restaurant together after every meet to create a team bond.
Senior varsity tennis player Austin Tipay said he treasures the dinner after matches with his team. It’s a part that resonates with him even more than the sport itself.
“It’s nice to be able to talk after a match,” Tipay said. “Just be able to sit and laugh with my close friends.”
Junior varsity tennis player Elsa Ober said her favorite memories with the team are the dinners. It’s gives her a chance to get to know her teammates better.
“To be able to connect off the court is good because while you’re there, you’re focused on the game,” Ober said.
Junior varsity tennis player Graham Pearson said it’s more exciting to win with a team where everyone knows each other.
Ober said the bus ride back from each starts an argument on where to go to eat.
“It’s a whole debate on the bus ride back,” Ober said.
When games get canceled or rained out, the team goes out to Altitude.
Pearson said one time, the 10 of them went to the wrong restaurant.
“Everyone was so confused, but it was so funny to me,” Pearson said.
Pearson said his favorite memory was going to In-N-Out with the team after the game against Lamar.
“It was such a raw moment to see everyone excited after winning a big game,” Pearson said.
Ober said having a bond in the team is important to her because they spend so much time together from practices to tournaments.
“Having a bond makes it more than just playing a sport,” Ober said.
