As helicopters buzzed overhead, the Eaglettes marched down the midway filled with excitement while thousands of spectators cheered during the Opening Day Parade of the State Fair of Texas.
The Eaglettes were the only high school drill team given the opportunity to perform at the parade to kick off the fair.
“I think as the captain of Eaglettes, I was excited for the team to be able to be a part of this new opportunity for us, since we were the only high school drill team in the district to be able to go, along with all of the country western teams,” senior captain Evelyn Wilson said.
Eaglettes would yell “E-A-G” and spectators would yell back “L-E-S” as they made there way through the parade.
“It was super fun to just have that audience interaction,” senior social officer Moss Solanki said. “They were all super kind and super welcoming, and it just felt like this is a good community to do this around.”
Junior officer Milia Kazee said that performing in front of many children was a great experience.
“I really like kids, so just being able to see them and wave to them and just put a smile on their faces was really fun.” Kazee said.
The parade was televised on major news networks across North Texas giving friends and family who couldn’t attend the opportunity to watch the event.
“I’m so glad that we got to reach a larger audience than we had before,” Solanki said. “I feel like we have done a really good job this year so far of spreading the news about Eaglettes.”
Solanki said the exposure the Eaglettes drill team got is beneficial to future Eaglettes.
“Maybe people will be inspired to come to RHS to be an Eaglette, and I hope that that’s what happens,” she said.
