As senior Katherine Miller walked up to the microphone, she felt confident in her solo but sad since it was her last performance.
Legacy Choir performed their annual Legacy Show on March 6 and March 7 where the theme was award winning songs.
Choir teacher Elizabeth Adsit chose this theme because of it’s broadness and greater song options.
“Some of our songs didn’t actually win awards but were featured at award shows,” Miller said. “So it was kind of a complicated theme, but I think it worked out really well.”
The students performed “Party Rock Anthem,” “Water Under the Bridge,” “Abracadabra,” songs from Hamilton, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Best Song Ever,” “I’m Just Ken” and “Single Ladies,” as well as small group performances and solos.
“We went through all of the songs online that have won awards,” junior Sarah Edwards said. “And we get to listen to them, talk about what we want to do for them, and see if that’s something we would like.”
The students were also given the task of finding costumes at local thrift stores to match their theme of award winning songs.
“For some of our songs, we based the costumes off of what the artists would wear,” Edwards said. “Like what kind costume would fit the vibe of the song.”
To prepare for the biggest concert of the year, students put in countless hours into practicing their group songs and their student led choreography. They practiced in class and had a two hour choreography rehearsal and one dress rehearsal.
Students came up with the choreography and taught it to the rest of the choir. Junior Asher Lee decided to help create the choreography because he’s in musical theater and has a lot of experience in dancing.
This year, the students convinced Adsit to let them put on two shows rather then just one.
“We begged for a second show this year, and I think we’re regretting it slightly because we didn’t realize how much work was going to be,” Miller said.
Since there were two performances, the crowd was smaller both days which made the experience less nerve wracking.
“Usually I get pretty nervous on stage, but for me, since it’s my senior year, I’m just trying to have fun,” senior Annabeth Burrow said. “It was just really fun to perform, and I felt less nervous this time.”
Seniors in Legacy Choir were emotional about it being their last performance.
“It makes me really sad,” Miller said. “Legacy has always been something I wanted to do, it’s been really fun. It’s been my favorite class that I’ve ever taken.”
