The girls basketball team beat Coppell last Friday, 57-51, rallying from an 11-point deficit at the half. They started off the season 10-14, but are 2nd in District 9-6A following their strong 5-1 start in district. The group is led by a trio of sophomores including Noelle Yancy, Nikya Green, and Skye Dugan.

New head girls basketball coach Kelly Dansby says that the team has improved signifcantly over the course of the season. This year’s roster is especially young, with only one senior on the team, senior Destini Frater.

“In the beginning it was challenging for the players to change,” Dansby said. “They’re great young players, and it just took a little time for the adjustments.”

Dansby says she hopes to run an elite program, working from the grassroots in the junior highs.

“We have to make sure our freshman, junior varsity, and varsity are all on the same page,” Dansby said. “I’m visiting the junior highs, making sure that discipline is where it needs to be in the program, and making sure that all our levels are learning on the court and taking care of business in the classroom.”
