Board to Announce New Superintendent
By Braedyn Bruner
In the coming weeks the Board of Trustees will select a permanent superintendent to replace Dr. Kay Waggoner who retired last June. Board President Kim Caston said the final decision will be based on characteristics that most closely mirror RISD.
“A superintendent should lead with distinction,” Caston said. “Organization, integrity, inspiration, effective communication, and listening skills are a few key qualities we look for. When you hear your voice through others, that’s a leader. All means all, not all means some.”
Senior Prosper Osuchukwu wants a district leader who puts the needs of classroom teachers first.
“Teachers put in so much time, including hours off the clock, and I think the new superintendent should be cognizant of that,” Osuchukwu said. “Leadership truly starts at the top, and this can be seen from peering into a classroom.”
