Richardson students took a break from school this morning and gushed into the large gym for the annual Richardson-Pearce football pep rally.
Students were greeted by cheerleaders and Eaglettes dressed in 80’s and 90’s movies clothes that reflected the theme Netflix. The Step Dance Team, the Desperados, and the drum line gave performances.
“My favorite part about the pep rally is that I like watching the Desperados and the Eaglettes dance – it’s pretty cool,” junior Legacy member Chelsea Blocker said.
The two schools’ rivalry began in 1967. Since then, Richardson has undergone many changes. This year football coach Brandon Rushing replaces Owen Nesbitt as emcee.
“[I became emcee] because someone asked me to. Everyone that knows me, knows that I’m high energy all the time, except for when I sleep,” Rushing said. “[My favorite part of the pep rally] is the energy, just the energy that the kids give.”
Many students said that they thought that Rushing did a good job exciting and motivating them for the game.
“I liked how we had time to celebrate different moments such as the birthday, and advertising the step team after their performance,” senior Tyrik Patterson said. “This emcee is definitely more aware of what is going on, and great at incorporating different things.”
Rushing said that tonight’s game is going to be great regardless of the score, but believes that Richardson will win.
“Just everybody supporting us, all of our fans – they give us the edge when playing Pearce,” senior football player Tyler Humphries said. “We’re going to show it on the football field.”
