Freshman Nicholas Crothers pressed the mouthpiece against his lips, blew the air from his lungs, and felt the notes run off his fingertips through the trumpet. After moving on to phase two of the Freshman All-Region Band auditions, many Richardson students seized the top spots of the competition.
I felt really good about my performance,” Crothers said. “I felt I did the best for my etudes in the room, but not the best at my scales.”
In the final phase of the competition, students gathered in one room to compete. Anxious at first, many students became overjoyed when the results were posted.
“After the results were posted, I freaked out honestly,” Crothers said. “I feel really proud and accomplished about making first chair, and especially proud that three other band members from RHS made first chair as well.”
The next competition on December 7 will be a full high school All-Region, pitting the freshmen against all four grade levels.
“I will have very tough competition,” Crothers said. “But I plan to at least make Phase Two.”
