Communications Magnet students spent the past weekend working on the annual Weekend Race assignment. The project, which started eight years ago, requires all communications students to group up, film and edit a five-minute video in one weekend.
“Captains of the teams pick between movie quotes, literary quotes and cinematic techniques or other elements, and put it together into a five minute film,” communications teacher Brent Morton said.
Each year, judges watch the films in the black box and evaluate them based on film and editing techniques, creativity, and use of the five-minute time limit.
In this weekend race, the film “Self Help” by the team Zombrublu won first place. The team consisted of seniors Eric Strange, Riley Testut, Matthew McEnaney, Chris Lewis, Lauren Earl, Ryan Hance and Parker Rankin. The team made up of juniors Katie Kennedy, Nicole Winship, Gabriel Schafer, Alyssa Leo, Talia Miller, Rebecca Swann and Mikaylyn Barnett won second place.
“We have done this competition for the last three years and it felt great to finally win this year,” senior Riley Testut said.
