Kelly Fishback was recently named the new director of the Eaglettes.
“I was on a drill team for four years in high school and two years in college, and then I was a director for 10 and a half years before I came here,” Fishback said.
Fishback’s passion for dance drove her to the decision to apply for the director position.
“Well, there was a job opening – I really love dance and drill team,” Fishback said.
Eaglette team members said they were excited to work with their new director.
“She is very knowledgeable in the dance world and is all about helping us do our best,” Eaglette captain Ryan Kboudi said.
Along with tons of ideas and new routines, Fishback has introduced traditions and policies that the Eaglettes have not experienced yet.
“The way we do tryouts is different – the way we do conditioning in the mornings is also a bit different,” Fishback said. “Also, students don’t have to re-tryout once they make the team, unless I think they need it.”
Although the usual responsibilities Eaglette directors have are choreographing dances and training students for dance performances, Fishback has taken on responsibilities outside the dance studio as well.
Fishback wants to make sure the girls get their payments in and always stay on top of their grades. She said she aspires to instill discipline and teamwork responsibility, increase students’ dance ability and make sure her dancers have everything they need.
“If something’s broke we fix it” Fishback said. If something needs to be taken care of we take care of it.“
In addition, Fishback wants to improve the Eaglette dance program and leave her unique mark on it.
“Every school is different so I have to learn the way things have been done here and then make it my own, just putting my own spin on things,” Fishback said.
Setting high expectations for the Eaglettes, Ms. Fishback has spent the past couple of months improving the Eaglettes’ performance and dance drills.
“One of their strengths is that they get along pretty well, and they work really hard,” Ms. Fishback said. “I do expect a lot of hard work, good performances, and building up our numbers-excellence.”
