Junior Thabit Pulak was sitting in Jeff Bivin’s AP Biology class when a yellow slip of paper was delivered to him. Inside was the news that, after two failed attempts, Thabit had been finally elected as Class President.
The other senior class officers are Grayson Rubin, Sarah Grubbs, Suzy Le Bel, and Jasmine Saenz.
Thabit plans to utilize his position to implement change.
“What I plan on doing is not much,” Pulak said. “But it will be novel when compared to what class presidents have been historically known for doing.”
Thabit would like to start a senior scholarship fund that would help students with college costs.
“This would be a scholarship funded through the student’s efforts, not just through some foreign organization,” Thabit said. “I believe it would be awesome for some class pride.”
In addition, he plans on improving and expanding the library conference room he advocated for this year. The conference room was built so that students can talk and work together without having to speak at a whisper-level. The conference room isn’t fully soundproof, however, so this is also an issue Thabit hopes to address during his term.
Finally, Pulak would like to hold meetings with the seniors, perhaps three times a semester, similar to student council meetings with students.
“I want to show that the senior class president is not just ‘prom-planning’,” Pulak said. “It has the potential to be something more than that.”
