As a part of the partnership between AT&T’s ASPIRE program and AVID, AT&T employees worked with seniors on their resumes and college applications on November 16.
ASPIRE, an AT&T community outreach program, and AVID partnered last year when students worked with the company to help them reach their goal of one million service hours nationwide.
Richardson High School provides service opportunities for AT&T by participating with them in the “It Can Wait” campaign against texting while driving, and setting up college-readiness days.
“We’re a very community based organization,” AT&T representative Marie Chesnut said. “We do a lot to help out, and coming to schools is just one of the many things we like to do”
Supervising Principal Michael Westfall thinks that the partnership is a win-win by providing service opportunities for AT&T and also helping students get into college.
“Our goal is just to provide them with real life experiences from real life people” Westfall said.
Many of the seniors have been working on their college applications in English class, but ASPIRE helped students take their applications further by providing advice about college and career options.
“It’s great,” senior Jessica Vidales said. “We really needed this help”
