As the sun began to set on a chilly autumn evening, Eagle stadium was filled with anticipation and nervous laughter because a new era was about to begin.
Under the guidance of new coach Bre Nixon, the Cheerleaders began to embrace a new theme, “Stronger Together,” to maintain morale following the departure of longtime coach Jeff Bivins.
“For me, change is hard, but I have seen how much of a difference stepping into things with a positive attitude has made this year,” varsity cheerleader Olivia Diamond said.
Nixon said teamwork was more important than ever as the transition occurred.
“At RHS Cheer we love seeing everyone at Richardson High School come together to show off all the talents we have at our school,” Nixon said.
The squad won the NCA Spirit Award, multiple spirit sticks, and the Herkie Award by the end of their annual cheer competition
“We were able to have a district camp with all of our schools which helped bring our cheer community together,” Nixon said.
The cheerleaders were able to show off their school spirit with multiple groups that were involved in showcase school events bringing students and staff together as one.
“I’ve watched our team come together through the change of coaching and the new team bonding activities the new coach has incorporated,” Diamond said. “We really are stronger together.”
