In an effort to encourage incoming freshman to join magnet programs, the school put on their annual magnet pep rally and showcase. Eighth graders from junior highs around the district came to watch the cheerleaders perform, listen to magnet leaders speak, and tour the campus.

After the eighth graders watched the pep rally, they are taken to small gym to eat pizza and pick which magnet group to tour with.

“I’m walking with the photography group but I really want to do tech theater and I also want to join yearbook,” Said West Junior High eighth grader Ava Stipe.

With the exception of the science magnet, students may join only one magnet. Eighth graders spend the day deciding which of the nine magnets to apply for.

“It’s really great for the eighth graders to see what options they’ve got,” Said Magnet Counselor Kristine Thomas-Wright.
