The volleyball team barely missed playoffs this year. They ranked fifth in the district with an overall of 23 wins and 14 losses, with Highland Park ranking first. Although the team missed playoffs this year, Head Coach Eric Miracle believes that there is hope for next year.
“I’m neither happy or angry,” Miracle said. “it is important to approach winning and losing with a similar level of emotional response.”
The team had one of the highest overall percentages this season and showed perseverance and sportsmanship through their games, like when they played against North Mesquite HS on October 27th, winning 3-0.
“I think that the scores were indicative of how we played, which was very well,” Miracle said.
Although Miracle said that the students played very well, he believes they still had quirks to work out.
“I think that the team played well at times, but was very inconsistent,” Miracle said.
Senior volleyball player Brooke Harris, who has an all time record of 703 kills, said she was happy with how well the team performed.
“I was glad to finish my last season to play in high school,” Harris said.
Another senior player, Grayson Sentell, said that even though they hadn’t achieved what they were hoping for, her teammates still did their best.
“Our original goal was to win district and go to playoffs,” Sentell said. “We didn’t accomplish that goal, but overall we all felt like we a had a great season.”
Sentell said one of the highlights of the season was beating Pearce.
“We beat Pearce at a match this year which hasn’t happened in like 10 years.” Grayson said.
