Senior Ben Nakwaasah looked across the court, then drove the lane to take a shot. Unable to find an opening, he passed to 7-foot center Dylan Gollihar who dunked the winning shot against Berkner High School.
In their third game of the season, the boys varsity basketball team continued their undefeated streak with an 80-74 win against Berkner.
“The boys did absolutely amazing against Berkner,” senior Mytron Washington said. “I’ve been going to the games against Berkner for the last three years, and simply put, this was a great repeat of last year. We beat them hard.”
Richardson led the entire game, eventually pulling out a six point win.
“This was one the best games we played in the season,” senior power forward Nick Igbinigie said. “We didn’t let our opponents get past us any time, and if we play like we did today the whole season, we can definitely dominate district.”
Coach Justin Reese said he has high hopes for winning district and making the playoffs with a team that currently ranks 14th in the state and 87th in the nation.
“For the Berkner game, I’m really proud of our players,” Reese said. “Our players played really hard and handled the whole game together with adversity, which helped us beat Berkner – usually one of our toughest opponents. Overall, we’re off to a good start. We’re playing together really well, but we also have big goals, and we have to get better in order to achieve them. Our team collectively is excited to see how good we really can be.”
