Faces painted and sporting their class t-shirts, a handful of seniors squatted in place, ready to destroy their teachers in a friendly game of volleyball. Unfortunately, the students lost every set 25-9, 11-25, 10-9 in the final round before time ran out.
“It was crazy,” senior Phillip Greene said. “We were ready to go. It’s about going out there and having fun. It’s our last year, and we’re out there to play with our friends and have a good time.”
The annual student-faculty game started last year to raise money for the senior class.
“I had a lot of fun,” volleyball coach Krissy Seaman said. “The coolest thing was watching the kids coach each other and take ownership.”
The senior class raised over $3,000 from the senior progressive dinner and the volleyball game combined.
“It was really exciting,” varsity volleyball coach Eric Miracle said. “The staff was very composed, and the seniors were pumped. They seemed way more in to it.”
Senior Tyrik Patterson said the pressure to win is heightened when playing against teachers who had played volleyball in college.
“I think it definitely could have gone better,” Patterson said. “Maybe in a next lifetime, we will win.”
