On Friday night, the Lady Eagles soccer team lined in numerical order waiting for their names to be called. It would be the first time they played their previous coach, Eric Smith, now coaching Plano East. They slowly felt the pressure build for a win.
It wasn’t until the last ten minutes when senior Jordyn Craighead laid a header into the back of the net that the Lady Eagles went up 1-0.
“Jordyn scored a great goal against a tough Plano East team in a 1-1 tie against our team’s former coach, Coach Smith,” Lady Eagles coach Trey Pearce said.
Most of the girls felt they had to prove to their old coach that they were successful with and without him.
“It was super intense playing against Coach Smith again and trying to show him up,” senior Katelyn Givens said.
In the second half, Plano East scored to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
Players said that although they wanted to beat Plano East, it was more personal than just another game.
“We weren’t out to beat the team, we were out to beat him,” senior Rachel Eckert said.
