On August 6, RHS welcomed incoming freshmen at its annual freshman orientation, where students were introduced to school rules and given an overview of campus life and visited the Eagle’s Nest to check out more than 30 student-run clubs and organizations.
Assistant Principal John Williams, who organized the event, said he pushed for a lot of clubs to be a part of orientation. Student clubs and organizations ranging from Cheer to the Desi Student Union were represented.
“I feel as though every student deserves to be included in whatever they fit in,” Williams said. “I want every student to make sure that they have a place to fit in here, because this is a place where dreams are made.”
Freshman Peculiar Slabi said she had a good experience at freshman orientation because everyone was very open to talking to freshmen and explaining their clubs.
“I love the fact there’s an event like this, because I can go around and talk to so many different people,” she said.
Freshman Wakeeat Salawu said this was a great opportunity to check out the clubs, because she might not get the chance to on the first day of school.
“I watch a lot of high school movies when I was younger and I always saw them joining clubs, making new friends and just in general having fun,” Salawu said. “And that’s something I want to do.
Senior Skylan Griffin said this event was perfect to showcase and expand her club, because freshmen don’t know what to join or what’s out there yet.
Williams said from what he’s been told, it’s not common for freshman orientation to feature so many different clubs and groups.
“Hopefully we can keep the tradition going and we can make it even bigger next year,” he said.
