The lunch schedule change began with student complaints – there were some students unsatisfied with the quality of cleanliness of the cafeteria and Eagle’s Nest and with the long waiting times when trying to get lunch. Principal Chris Choat proposed a solution to the admin team to cut one lunch period in place of longer passing periods.
The lunch schedule changes affected students in D-Lunch the most, with students being shuffled and distributed across the other three lunch periods.
At first I thought that the lunch change was not necessary, actually counterproductive, but it was indeed something that I admit, was helpful.
First there were the dirty tables, a direct consequence of the staff not having enough time to prepare for the next lunch. Second was the long lines caused by students not clearing hallways. With more time between lunches, admin and staff could make sure students weren’t taking multiple lunches.
The new lunch schedule is something I see as a productive change. Students getting their lunches more efficiently and being in class during instructional time is worth the disruption of the change.
