D-lunch was removed from the schedule to extend cleaning times between the other three lunches and to be more efficient to meet students’ needs.
Principal Christopher Choat presented the suggestion to the admin team, and it was tested during finals week. He said that it had positive benefits and didn’t have objections from the admin team.
“We met a couple of different times, talked about it, and we all agreed that that’s going to be the best schedule moving forward,” Choat said.
The change will increase the number of students in each lunch by around 250.
“For my for my scenario, It’s good because I have more friends in my lunches now.” Sophomore Avery Morrison said.
Choat said the main benefits were more downtime between passing periods, but also overcrowding.
“What we saw with the back to back to back to back lunches are people cramming doors,” Choat said. “Trying to cut through the lines or big lumps forming because people are trying to get in to the next period.”
Choat also said that student management was hard because of students skipping class to take multiple lunches. It was harder to see which students stayed or left because of the crowds.
“Now with that 15 minutes, we can clear the halls to make sure that everybody’s in the lunch they’re supposed to be in,” he said. “I think it accomplishes the goals for us and for the custodial and cafeteria staff – the thing we’re still working through now is getting students used to it.”
