On Saturday, 36 students attended the freshman All-Region Band audition at Rockwall Heath High. With half of them advancing, giving them either an alternate or permanent position in the All-Region Band, Richardson made history by having the most freshman players make the cut.
“What makes it so impressive is that a third of the students who made it were from the Symphonic Band, the third ensemble in our school,” Band Director Jesus Marquez said.
The freshmen performed set cuts of music they received in August, the chromatic scale, and a scale of the judge’s choice. Of the 20 schools that competed, Richardson ISD schools took the top three places. Edging out Richardson were Pearce and Berkner, taking the top two spots.
“We all worked really hard on this together, with the help of our directors – hard work and practicing really paid off,” freshman trombone player Evan Perry said.
