From transforming into a whole new persona of a character and slaying a dragon, to becoming a witch casting a spell, the role playing phenomenon Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) game is now a club with over 20 members. Meetings are being held on Wednesdays and Fridays in room B201.
Juniors Phil Wittel and Club President Jacob Lynd have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for a few years, and thought it would be cool to bring a club to Richardson. D&D is a fantasy role playing game, where groups of 8 people play at a time.
“Acting, writing, and drawing people can all come together with this one multimedia game,” Wittel said. “If you have ever seen the rule books, they look daunting, but only one person needs to know the rules, and that’s what the Dungeon Master is there for.”
Each group in Dungeons and Dragons has a Dungeon Master and they create the campaign and outline for the characters and story.
“There’s this huge anti-nerd social stigma attached to it,” Lynd said. “Thankfully Richardson is a school that is very good to its nerds, because we’re so big we don’t have really any unpopular groups.”
For the first semester, the club will be having sessions from 4:10-5:30. Snacks are encouraged to be brought as a Dungeons and Dragons tradition.
“It all gets back to this one thing,” Sponsor Michael Hill said. “We want to make sure that everybody in here feels welcome and everybody in here has a place at the table.”
