The Eagles trotted out of the locker room last Friday wearing new white helmets adorned with a purple decal of an eagle’s wings. The new helmets will be used in the future on a game-by-game basis.

Head Coach Greg Pels decided to implement the new helmets to give the players something new to be excited about.

“Our guys work extremely hard,” Pels said. “It’s a job from the standpoint that they go to practice at 6 a.m., do homework, and go to tutoring. It makes for a long day, so we wanted to do something for our players.”

Senior outside linebacker Preston Abadie thought that the helmets were a nice change to the traditional uniform.

“It was a nice change,” Abadie said. “We were able to mix it up a little bit.”

Pels also says that the helmets signify the new direction of the football program.

“It shows where the program is headed,” Pels said. “There’s a newness to the team, and we wanted the players to reap the benefits of that.”
