Senior Jonathan Nowak’s mom Angie Nowak shimmied with Snow White’s six dwarfs, Cruella DeVil, Darth Vader, Minnie Mouse and other Disney characters. Many parents supported their students in the senior pep rally by dressing up and participating in a dance led by senior cheerleader Katie Moen.
“I did this for my older son when he was a senior, and it was a lot of fun,” Nowak said. “I’m excited for [Jonathan], a little sad, but really really excited.”
Along with the parents’ dance, the pep rally showcased performances by the cheerleaders, the Eaglettes, the Golden Eagle Band, Legacy and the Desperados. Senior Desperado Julia Simin said that having a different partner this pep rally was challenging but that she enjoyed it just as much.
“I was really excited [coming into this],” Simin said. “It was really more celebratory than anything. We were all able to just take a deep breath and let loose and have fun.”
Students said the theme itself contributed to the pep rally’s success since the performances were tailored to Disney-themed songs and movie characters.
“It was so much fun,” Simin said. “I love Disney, so it was like the best experience of my life. It was definitely my favorite pep rally, and everything was spot on.”
Many students said they also enjoyed both Hypematic’s performance and the Eagle Guard skit, which ridiculed the other three Richardson schools and mocked freshmen.
“This is going to go down as one of our funniest skits,” senior Eagle Guard member Levi Rolfe said.”We’re playing on all sorts of inside jokes and getting the crowd into it.”
The football team plays Berkner tonight. Just as the pep rally was dedicated to seniors, the football game will include the Senior Walk. At the end of the game, seniors will gather in the end zone to walk the field for the last time as students during Senior Night.
“This pep rally was the most exciting one by far,” Rolfe said. “We are celebrating all of the hard work during our career here at RHS.”
